Architectural Photographer Rates & Licensing

Frequently asked questions about my rates and licensing terms

What are your architectural photography rates?

To simplify things I have 2 separate rates based on final number of retouched images.

£700 - Up to 20 final retouched images

£1200 - Up to 40 final retouched images

The £700 rate includes both my time on-site carrying out the photography (maximum 3 hours on-site in total) along with a fixed number of up to 20 final retouched images delivered.

The £1200 rate includes time on-site carrying out the photography (maximum 6 hours on-site in total) with a fixed number of up to 40 final retouched images delivered.

Contact sheet
Clients will be supplied with a contact sheet made up of large thumbnail previews of all of the images taken on the shoot for the client to choose from and make their shortlist of up to 20/40 images.

Any extra images that the client would like to use above the final selection of 20/40 images are charged at a fixed rate of £50 each.

A deposit of 50% is to be paid and cleared latest 5 days prior to the photoshoot date in order for the booking to be secured, with the remaining 50% due upon delivery of the contact sheet. Once the remainder is settled, the editing process of the shortlisted images begins, with a full set of high resolution images delivered via WeTransfer upon completion.

What’s included?

Time on site
£700 rate includes up to 3 hours on site
£1200 rate includes up to 6 hours on site

Post-production
Strict multi level post-production retouching of the final chosen images.

Retouching
Light retouching is included as standard. Any need for medium/heavy retouching required i.e. complicated item removal etc is charged at £50/hour.

Contact sheet
After the shoot, I supply the client with a digital PDF contact sheet including 4 thumbnail previews per A4 page of all of the images that made it past the initial culling stage. The client will then use this contact sheet to make their shortlist of 20/40 images that they would like me to retouch and deliver as the final product.

Travel
Travel is included for any shoots within the M25. Travel beyond this distance is charged by the mile or final cost of travel if using a means of transport other than driving.

High resolution retouched images
Ready for print and web use, all delivered via WeTransfer.

Do you offer cost sharing for third party contractors involved in the same project?

Yes, an extended license can be put in place prior to a photoshoot being invoiced for any contractors that have worked with the client on the project being photographed, so that they can use the images for their marketing purposes also. This helps everyone have the ability to use the photoshoot images, at a reduced final cost to each party.

In scenarios like this, a cost sharing arrangement can be put in place, which will include an increase of 30% in the total invoice cost for each additional party that would like to license the images for their marketing usage. The final invoice can then be split between all parties included in the arrangement. The main client will be billed for the total invoice and can arrange how they wish to split the costs directly with the other parties. This discount will only be applied prior to the initial invoicing of the main client. Any request of image licensing by third parties after the main client has been invoiced can of course be arranged, however there will be no discount applied.

Here is an example of how this could be cost effective for all parties involved. If a client was to commission me for a full day shoot, and had 3 other contractors that would also like to use the images (e.g. developers / construction engineers / interior designers/ lighting suppliers etc), the final breakdown for the job would be as follows:

£1200 full day rate
+
£1080 (£360 which is equal to 30% of the full day rate x 3 other contractors)
=
£2280

Divided by 4 parties involved in total including main client = £570 each party (rounded up)

In any event of an extended license being issued to multiple parties, only the main client who is commissioning the project will have a say in any aspects of the photoshoot including artistic direction, from the initial planning all the way through to final delivery. If any of the other parties involved have any specific requirements or need specific images taken, then an independent commission must be arranged and will be priced accordingly.

During the photoshoot I will take as many images I feel work commercially and fit the requirements of the client brief given to me during the initial consultation stage.

After the shoot, I supply the client with a digital PDF contact sheet including 4 thumbnail previews per A4 page of all of the images that made it past the initial culling stage. The client will then use this contact sheet to make their shortlist of 20/40 images that they would like me to retouch and deliver as the final product.

The number of images the client will have available to choose from the contact sheet will be dependant on various factors including complexity of the project, accessibility on the day of the shoot, timeframe we have to work within, lighting, if the photoshoot was carried out at dusk or night time and any time lost travelling between multiple locations during a single session, but as a general rule of thumb, usually it is around 2-2x5x the final selection, however this number can vary significantly based on the factors above.

How do I select the images I want after the photoshoot?

How do you license your images?

All photos are licensed to clients for 3 years and can be used worldwide for any marketing purposes other than paid advertising, where licensing is arranged on a usage basis. Images delivered to the client are for the sole use of the client, and as such, can not be used by any third parties unless agreed to in writing prior to works being invoiced.

With any imagery supplied to clients, the copyright is always owned by Theo Tzia. Buyouts of imagery although rare can be arranged in some circumstances and are reviewed on a case by case basis.
